My name is Paulo Cordeiro and I was born in Sao Miguel, Azores. In June 1976, I moved to Somerville, Massachusetts along with my wife Belmira and daughter Margarida.
Before leaving Sao Miguel I was an accountant for a period of 8 years and worked for Altiprado-Empresa Agro-Pecuaria Da Achada Das Furnas.
Two weeks after arriving in the US I started working as a bookkeeper at Precision Motor Rebuilders, Inc in Somerville, Mass. I handled the company’s cash receipts and disbursement journals along with the payroll for approximately 70 employees. I remained at Precision Motors for 23 years until the company closed its doors after the death of the owner. During this period I attended English classes at SCALE (Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences) and at Harvard University.
In 1999 I was offered a clerical position at PCU (Portuguese Continental Union). In 2002, after the merger of PCU and LALIS (Luso–American Life Insurance Society), I became administrator and liaison of Luso American Education Foundation East, a division of Luso-American Life Insurance Society. Another of my present responsibilities
is the sale of various insurance plans offered by LALIS.
I currently live in Somerville, Mass with my wife. We enjoy traveling and spending time with our granddaughter, Sofia Almeida. My wife, Belmira Cordeiro, held several positions on the board of directors and was the first woman to hold the post of President of the PCU division of Luso-American Life Insurance Society. Our daughter Margarida, her husband Paulo Almeida and our granddaughter Sofia live in Wilmington, Mass. Margarida received her bachelor of art degree from the University of Mass and is currently working as a dental hygienist.

This is another of several issues of the CEO Blog that will consist of a BIO for an employee of Luso-American Life Insurance Society. The intent is for our members to learn more about the people who work for them.
This issue of the Blog is for Lucilia Esteves, our Office Manager (East) at our office in Lexington, Massachusetts.
My name is Lucilia Esteves, and I was born in Britelo, Ponte da Barca, a small village in banks of Rio Lima, in the now Parque National da Peneda e Geres, Minho, about 12 km from Galiza, Spain. Here I spent my summer vacations, but lived in Porto, Boavista, where I completed the 5th year in Liceu Carolina Michaelis.
At age 17, I came to Massachusetts with my parents Mario and Agueda Esteves, sister Edite Furtado and brother Licinio Esteves. We joined relatives in Dorchester, and lived there until about 21 years ago when we moved to Quincy, Massachusetts.
I finished high school at Dorchester High. From there I went to UMass Boston and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics and Math.
In June 1973 I joined the Portuguese Continental Union, where I have worked for the last 36 years.
Being a relatively small office, I got involved fully or in part with many different jobs, ranging from billing and entering payments to preparing balance sheets and comparative statements, payroll to tax reporting, from updating forms and database systems to annual statements (Actuary, FSI), from policy processing and to processing claims. A variety that has made my stay at PCU an enjoyable learning experience. An enjoyment that is continuing at the Luso-American Life, now that we are one united organization.
In 1978 I married Antonio Cruz and I have a son David working as a cook in Quincy and daughter Olivia studying Graphic Design at Boston University.
